I loved what you did with Johnny Cash’s song. You are so unique, you made it your own! Rock on!

  • Dark Elvis Says:

Adam’s performance last night was mesmerizing! He reminded me a bit of Jim Morrison with a mix of Nine Inch Nails. Showed him as a great singer/performer/musician. AWESOME!!! Can’t wait for his first CD to come out.

  • champagnewishes Says:

I loved it, wait, no— I didn’t, wait, his voice was awesome and incredible. He is so unique to this world! Definitely too good to be on American Idol with Simon Cowell’s cookie cutter expectations. Go Adam. Vote people!!!

  • shelly Says:

i absolutely loved this performance! i think it’s my favorite performance of his!

  • UpNext Says:

I like how you sing dude, but I agreed with Simon this time. That song really creeps me out **Goosebumps** not because I like because it was horrible.

Being unique is good but don’t push it so hard that it will sound ridiculous.

Hope you do better next time.

  • turtle Says:

Adam was great last night, his version was an alternative version of Johnny Cash’s original, I agree, a bit between Nine Inch Nails, Rob Zombie, super creepy & I loved it! I look forward to each week just to see what he will do with his song!

  • Kim Says:

WOW. Just keep watching it over and over. Not many people out there who would have the guts to change up Johnny. He took something that was out of his genre and made it his. Awesome job Adam. Definately have me behind you 100%!

  • Donna Says:

Adam – you are unique and original! We watched your performance over and over! (Thank you TIVO!) Johnny would have been proud! I usually agree with Simon, but not this time! Hopefully, he took the time to watch your version again and rethink his position. Your ring of fire gave me chills!!!! Good ones, of course! Regardless if you win Idol or not – you are on your way to success! I’m hoping you do a series of NEW oldies – because you can make them current hits! Bravo!!

  • Dan Says:

Very strange. I wanted to like it so much more than I did.
    Too bad.

  • Sarah Says:

WOW! That was fantastic! I was turned on and mesmerized at the same time!

  • Beth Says:

This is the first time I’ve ever youtubed a performance after the show to watch it over and over again. Definitely the best performance I’ve ever seen on American Idol.

  • Shane Says:

I enjoy work by folks like the Cure, NIN, Gary Numan, Collide and killer vocalists like Jeff Buckley. Dude, you “flipped this joint” like Cook did Billy Jean last season. I love these covers.

You’ve got yourself in the spotlight, now really push that voice of yours to knock us out. The range and duration is (as my teen kids say) “sick.” Much success!

  • Jennifer Hanner Says:

That performance was so “ADAM”. I loved it! haha It left me feeling confused and a little turned on at the end hahaha. Keep up the good work adam! You rock!

  • Jeff Says:

Im not sure what songs they allow you to sing but you should sing some Guns N Roses. You have some insane range on your voice. I thought that song sounded pretty badass. Country songs never really show off vocal talent but you definately made that one work.

  • Waddlez Says:

Utterly amazing. His uniqueness is what make’s me and so many others so fond of him. I have yet to see anyone match his range, difference, and ability to keep everyone on their toes all the time. I will me behind him through whatever. He is by far, the only person I even want to remember this season. It might have been a bit odd, but not weird or hirrid. It was someone showing their diversity. We need someone like him to keep the show interesting.

  • Waddlez Says:

    Sorry about the typos. :|

  • Mike Says:

ummm..er.. OMG… goosebumps! What a voice!! Hell, I’m still playing it on my TIVO set on a loop with the stereo cranked. Just wish I had the full song! Awesome – totally awesome!!

  • trent Says:

Adam was awesome last night!!! That is a given, but the comparisons of his singing is way off. Everyone is wrong in their comparison of singing style. It was nowhere close to NIN. NIN is industrial in its music sound. Trent Reznor is a unique and powerful singer but completely different style of singer. Everyone needs to listen to Jeff Buckley or Jimmy Gnecco from the Band Ours sing. Listen to the song Murder by Ours, then you will know what Adam Lambert’s sound is closer too.

  • Laura Tz Says:

Simply mesmerizing… I have been a huge fan since the beginning. You are in a class by yourself! Bravo!

  • Sam Says:

Adam – Your take on Dilana’s take was amazing to me. I love that people feel so boiled up this song! It cracks me up! I think that when a work of art is really hated or loved – something special is going on. Personally, I loved it. Thank you for having the talent and the cojones to birth this slice!

  • LC Says:

Adam – No doubt you are an amazing artist, but I really didn’t like your take on the song. Surprised but respect that you have the guts to sing that version in a singing competition. Unfortunately if you want to win the competition, you may want to tone it down a notch. You know very well your unique style is not for everyone. I still like you the best though, but I can only vote so many times and you do need other people’s votes too.

  • Mandy Says:

I thought Adam’s proformance was very awesome. My husband and I watched it at least 6 times and we were fans before, but this was icing on the cake for us liking him!

  • Owe Aych Says:

Horrible. Just plain horrible. Adam is very talented, but that was just bloody awful.

  • dawgpounder Says:

Adam needs to tank the competition somewhere around final five or four. Don’t want to get locked into a contract with 19. Stardom is already assured, get another five or six live shows under the belt and then bail.

  • John R Says:

I thought AL’s performance was astonishing. I bet I’ve watched it 30 times since tuesday night. Whats strange is that I hated all of his previous performances. But Im on board now! And paula was right, it had a errry Robert Plant feel to it. more so than Trent Reznor. i would love to see him do a led zep tune. unfortunately, the demographics of American idol would just not get it.

  • im01i Says:

agreed with dawgpounder. lambert, for our sake, get your licks in and get out. kudos to amerIdol for making your presence known. but the forces behind amerIdol will drown you in the end. i demand to see lambert blow this agreed with dawgpounder. lambert, for my sake, get your licks in and get out. kudos to amerIdol for making your presence known. but the forces behind amerIdol will drown you in the end (witness: kara & cowell’s square-peg-round-hole consternation). i demand to see lambert blow this show out of the water, post-hoc-style. for example: lambert+(brian)eno = guaranteed beyond the pale (in a good way). amerIdol can have the credit; lambert will have the glory; we will reap the spoils.

  • bobdoom Says:

have you guys noticed when simon said it was horrible but didn’t said why it was horrible? people have different liking for music. Its just bout their own tastes. I believe adam was good. He’s too outstanding to be in AI.

  • Dawn Moreno Says:

Adam is hot. GREAT rendition of Ring of Fire.

  • Debra Says:

I can’t this version out of my head. So Robert plant/bollywood just fantastic!!!!
    Great performance, I loved it!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thomas Says:

If you really search you can find that this is an exact cover of Universal Hall Pass. You can find the free song on their web site under the sound section…

    Gutsy, not original…

  • Sarah Says:

Adam Lambert is amazing. He’s the best singer that American Idol has ever had. If he doesn’t win, I’m boycotting American Idol for their stupidity.I don’t watch American Idol except for Adam’s performances, but I still think that he’s the best musical artist. I love this song! I especially love the way he looks when he sings it. I’m a little bit obsessive; sorry.

  • Denise Says:

Absolutely freakin’ incredible. I loved it from beginning to end. Can’t wait for his album to come out. Adam is simpy amazing. He’s much too good to be on American Idol.

  • sjayy Says:

Adam as AMAZING!!! i think that he deserves to be the next American Idol, not only is he amazingly good lookin, he has a rare and beautiful voice…he has my vote!! i love youu adam!!!

  • Capiznon Bloggers Says:

This is the performance from Idol EVERYONE is talking about… Oh my!?

  • Susan Mahr Says:

I was stunned when I first heard this, because Adam pulled the rug of “expectations” out from under our feets! Then I watched the video the next day and realized it was nothing short of GENIUS!… I JUST LOVE THIS GUY! GO ADAM!!!
I totally appreciate him and think he should win. He sings circles around the others.

  • glenn Says:

Any one who bashes Adam probably thought George Bush was a great President!

  • Lana Says:

yes, that is the universal hall pass arrangment. you can find an mp3 on their website.

  • Mansooj Says:

I’ve rarely been motivated to bother lifting a finger either to vote for a wannabe idol or make any comments either way, but holy christ that was friggin’ a-m-a-z-i-ng! Your vocal ability so obviously crushes the competition, it should be a done deal right now. Unfortunately, the American voting public repeatedly proves itself braindead and easily swayed, so who knows.

Win or lose, you’re on your way to well-deserved stardom. If nothing else, everyone who watches the show should thank you for making “country week” (an otherwise usually gun-to-the-head-worthy experience), something to remember.

That aside, you appear to have a genuinely humble, even-tempered personality, which is all too rare in someone with such blatantly obvious talent.

Good on ya. Good luck, and keep on keepin’ it real.

  • Mary Says:

Amazing song! There’s so much life, emotion, the fire seemed almost fluid. I listened to this all day, over and over. Can’t compare this with any.Performance & song – Excellent!

  • Jade Says:

he is so hot, and a great singer

  • cosette Says:

    Adam,
That was my favorite performance on American Idol out of all 8 seasons. I’ve watched it over and over again, but the first time I heard it I had my eyes close. I was completely enchanted by it. Everything about you and your voice exudes sexiness. To me, you sound a little like Muse. You are OUTSTANDING!!! I absolutely can’t wait to see more of you.

  • cosette Says:

I just want to add that this performance sealed the deal for me. I thought his other performances were a mixture of good and manic. He wasn’t my favorite until this point. From here on out he can do no wrong in my book. He has my vote all the way. I am completely obsessed now in the most unhealthy way. I think he should try to do supermassive blackhole by muse.

  • joe Says:

Melissa Kaplan’s version. She did it a few years ago. Sounds very similar. She sings it better.

  • Christopher Ransom - Freelance Reporter Says:

The big question for me is: Why hasn’t someone in the industry signed you to a label yet? How have you managed to go this long without already becoming, well, need I say, famous?

I realize the version you chose for “Ring of Fire” had been previously ‘attempted’, but Adam – your redition was fantastic! The extended version is even better. If you are the winner of American Idol, that would obviously be terrific, but if by some freak accident, you aren’t, don’t sweat it. Your fame is sealed. You’ll be on the radio soon enough – and for a great many years to come.

  • barbara Says:

His rendition of Ring of Fire was stupendous; his voice compelling, and his smile a lot like Elvis Presley’s.

  • Rufus Says:

Oh my gosh that has got to be the weirdest, coolest song I’ve heard this season so far. What an amazing mixture of Acid Rock, Country, and (I think others have noticed too) Elvis! His voice is seductively crazy, but professionally controlled. Bravo! Can’t wait to hear Adam next week!

  • DarkSnark Says:

Loved it. Bought it. Too bad he’s half my age…

  • Rick Says:

I can’t stop listening to Adam’s version of “Ring of Fire”. He’s an incredibly gifted performer and he doesn’t need AI anymore to be a great success.I think I’m getting totally obsessed with Adam. U just can’t get enough!

  • Jose Says:

Top drawer! Listened to indie, rock, alternative music for years and love Adman’s take on songs. Fantastic!

  • jime Says:

Awesome version. I really don’t know why Adam is in American Idol, he should be working in his own group, with total musical freedom and great musicians.
