So I’ve been holding this back…

admin

You’ve heard the saying numerous times: “Hindsight is 20/20″. And after any event, competition, season, month, or even lifetime you can see the “truth” much more clearly than you could while it was happening.

American Idol is no different. Throughout this entire season I have been closely following Adam. He was my favorite from the second he sang Bohemian Rhapsody in his audition and never once disappointed me. Two minutes after his audition, I bought this domain and this site was born. I believed then, as I believe now, that Adam will be a star.

Throughout this season, Adam has been hailed the next Elvis, a potential international superstar, and the greatest Idol ever.  But not everyone is as praising.  I’ve seem numerous message board attacks on everything from his style, makeup, eyeliner, and fingernail polish (not everyone’s cup of team, I know) to his sexuality.

Here’s the thing… I think Adam is comfortable being the springboard to have debates on sexuality, style, personality.  He’s incredibly personable, an awesome interviewee, and it’s obvious he’s comfortable being hisself.  He’s amazingly talented, yet humble.  He was the favorite from the beginning and seemed to bring the competition up to his level.  He wasn’t a star struck loner, rather become part of what seems to be a very close knit group.

I’ve read over and over on message boards and even been asked on Twitter “Would you want Adam as YOUR Son/Daughters role model?”, implying that I probably wouldn’t.  I totally understand if you don’t like Adam’s music or his style.  That’s preference.  He’s a bit over the top, even for me at times and I’m a huge fan.

But calling out his character?  The guy is fabulous!  Why WOULDN’T you want him to be your son/daughters roll model?  He’s gracious in defeat and there’s nothing bad said about his character.  He’s a talented, humble, awesome person from all accounts.  So he wears makeup?  If that’s his biggest flaw, I’d like for him to be my son/daughters best friend!

I think we forget what kids see everyday… Or we pretend we don’t see. I’m a little put off by the “he got what he deserved” and “his antics caught up to him” sentiment.  I ask you, “are you being a role model?”

Oh, and just for the record, I am a Christian, white, straight, republican from Indiana. And I’m not saying Adam lost because of this… Quite to the contrary.  He’s a lighting rod and had as many die hard supporters as stark critics.  But I do think we can take something from this, as a country… Call it a “Teachable Moment”:

Roll models come in all shapes, sizes, and finger nail colors.

I have been reading many of these comments to my husband. He says I should comment his thoughts on Adam coming 2nd on AI. The possible telephone voting manipulation has turned into a positive for you. Adam, your coming 2nd has elevated you to an even higher level to all those watching. Your response was totally gracious and you were genuinely happy for Kris. Your humility and lack of ego were so apparent. You are a true idol, and a good human being to the core. Don’t let fame go to your head, stay focussed on spreading your joy around the world. We both love you, and enjoyed all of your performances. We look forward to seeing the AI tour, as we just had to obtain tickets. We will also look forward to your CDs.

I have to comment as my husband and I have been around a while and have seen quite a bit. We are both 65 years old and we LOVE Adam. We’re not even hard rock, or rock lovers but Adam is sooooo talented, gracious, creative and much, much more. Not to take away from Chris. He is very good also and seems a very nice person but we still feel all in all, Adam was way past Chris in talent, presentation and everything else. We aren’t even necessarily pro gay but at this time in our history, it’s simply a fact and everyone is going to have to deal with it. Even, and I think especially, our youth. They will be seeing and hearing more & more about it as they continue in school and will most likely have several friends who are gay or lesbian. Why not then have an example in that community by someone who has the charisma, manners, talent, drive etc. of someone like Adam. Do we like the pictures etc. that are on the internet – heck no – but hopefully, Adam will realize that was not a wise thing to do for the whole world to view and comment on and will control that area of his life a bit better from now on. We will be sooooo surpised if he doesn’t achieve the “Elvis like career” and will be very disappointed as well. When we first started seeing Elvis on tv etc., he was thought of as waaay too sexy and not a good influence on our youth. Didn’t matter as we all know and I really don’t think any of his “sexiness” hurt any of our youth. They grew up with the morals etc. that were set by their parents and enjoyed Elvis for his talent and showmanship.

I hope Adam is able to read these posts and feel how much love there is for him. Adam, your spot in the public eye has probably brought about more change than you know.
I was not popular in high school – I was shy
and not athletic, which was the focus of my school.
Still carrying that lack of confidence as a
mom of 2 teens, I have recently been experiencing a shift in my thinking after seeing your fearless, heartfelt performances
week after week and am starting to approach
life “with a swagger” – a compliment that Simon applied to you. I’m a different person.
To your parents, I say “Your son is a world-class winner!”

  • Marissa Says:

I love this guy, and I have that incommon with you that as soon as he sang that song i was like woooow, and also with Danny. But i really want to know his sexuality, i really don’t care, but he is soooo HOT!!
And i would really want to know if he is gay or not. If he is gay, he is so much the guy I would like to be friends with and if not gay then..
So if you know then please tell me or something.

  • ADAMLAMBERTFAN!!! Says:

Adam Lambert is gay but I don’t care whether he is or not he is sexy and very talented and sexy!!!!!!!!!

  • Lablover Says:

Adam Lambert is the SEXIEST AMERICAN IDOL EVER! He will be so sought after…mark my words. I can see so many other artists calling him up and asking him to do a song, a concert, write, etc., with him. Adam loves his brother, his mom and dad and anyone who loves family, is that down to earth is sexy. Adam loved going back to his roots and showing his support to the MET – and mentoring those children was awesome. I wish I had anyone do that when I was young. I don’t care if Adam is Gay, Straight, Bi he is sweet as honey and nice as pie. He is uber talented and Clay can’t even gain 1/4 of his stardom.

  • Yen Says:

Ok, guys, pls stop taking about this. Now AI is over, there is nothing we can do about it. Just I am wondering when Adam will tell us whether he is gay. My god, he is talented and every one knows it. Pls tell me if he is gay because I am in love with him. He

  • Amy engelbrecht Says:

I love adam!!!! He has an amazing voice, awesome personality and he is gorgeous. Hes music gives me goose bumps :) cant wait for your album adam. It cant come soon enough! You are truly a star

  • Christelle from Cape Town, South Africa Says:

When Adam sang “I can’t get no satisfaction” and true to old Rubber Lips’s style, Adam swayed sexily over the stage whilst looking deadstraight into the camera, I said to my 17 year old daughter…here comes trouble. Adam is the most talented young man that I have seen since Will Young. I love his make up, his leather outfits and his amazing capability to take any song and “Adamise” it. Throughout we supported his every performance and could not wait to see what he was going to come up with next. We were guessing all along who he will sing with on the final night and we wagerered guesses like, maybe Queen, and ACDC, my husband said Kiss. We laughed a lot about our outrageous suggestions and were amazed when two of guesses came true. Where would Chris or even the adorable Danny Gokey have the amazing talent and guts to sing along with the legendary rock stars like Kiss? I was most dissappointed that Adam could not at least have the stage alone with Roger May and had to share it with Chris leading to a whimp out performance. When Adam comes to South Africa we will go see his shows and when his DVD/CD’s come out we are buying. He is sexy/talented/humble and will become a megastar.

  • hotspear Says:

Ladies and Gentlemen, this is American ‘Idiot’.

I’ve been reading a lot of pages on internet in an effort to comprehend why Adam was not crowned what he really deserved. A lot of flames have been fired at the faulty voting system(not only the busy tone but also the phone voting system itself). There is nothing concrete and conclusive to tell cheating plays a role. However if Adam was really cheated his title, then Americans need to think what is in common in the following events: Enron, Toxic Bonds(CitiBank, Lehman, AIG) and the latest American Idol. If large companies, the government, and now even the entertainment industry are playing something at the cost of credibility, there is no wonder why America as a nation is losing its influence on the world stage.

On a side track, why Kris Allen has more hits on iTune?

  • Lindsay from South Africa Says:

Adam you are our hero in SA, please come and perform here. We were blown away from the first time you sang. I raced home on Wed amd Thurs nights to see what you would do next. This week my week looks so dull as we do not have your performances to look forward to.
You are going to be an icon in the music world, one that we have not seen in many many years. So glad our generation now has an idol like our parents had in Elvis. YOU ARE THE BEST!!!

  • Kate Says:

Great interview on Fox and so nice to see that Adam is still as UP and sweet as he was during the AI run. I think it blows people away at how really humble he is because we have all seen those mega-talented people who are not.

I wasn’t an AI fan until I caught Adam singing one night and my mouth dropped open. I have seen all the big names in concert and Adam is as talented and belongs in the big leagues.

The Led Zeppelin song just stunned me. But just about anything that he sings is amazing.

I think he etched himself into the hearts of millions of people not just because he is a singing/vocal phenom. He came across as a really wonderful person as well. I have two sons and they could take tips from Adam! Kudos to his parents.

  • Tishie Says:

Adam – COME TO SOUTH AFRICA! Goodluck with your future journey. will be looking out for your cd and so forth!

  • Susan Says:

OK…I think I’ve got it now.

Giving Adam the title would have meant he’d be under contract with AI for a year, and right now Adam needs to be free…

Rock On, Adam! You are beyond awesome!

  • JJ Says:

Adam is THE most talented contestant AI has ever had on the show. Kris got it right when he said “Adam deserves this.” Kris knew it and so does America…or they should know. Adam will be a mega star and it might be a blessing in disguise that he is not saddled with that idiotic Idol song for the next year and be forced to make it his first single. Adam is better than that. I love his creativity, style, presentation and that voice…..OH, THAT VOICE! My son asked me what I wanted for Mother’s Day and I told him I wanted a CD of everything he could find that Adam has sung to date. I’m 60 yrs. old but I love Adam. It angers me that people think a persons sexuality and style is fodder for gossip. None of the other contestants were put under that kind of microscope. Adam is different and that is refreshing, engaging, courageous, and wonderful to watch. His parents should be quite proud of him. Adam is headed for greatness and I for one can’t wait for that first CD….no matter what style it is. Adam can do anything, go anywhere and just watch America. I a couple of years we’ll be saying “Kris who?” but there will be no doubt when someone mentions Adam’s name. Way to go Adam! You are an exceptional musical artist and one awesome individual. Don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

  • Dee Says:

Adam has shown himself to be a gracious 2nd which makes me love him all the more. I loved every performance, yes even Ring of Fire. What an amazing talent! He should go on his own though and not accept Queen’s offer if there is one. I want to hear the magic he can make on his own.

  • JustloveAdam Says:

Adam is so perfect. I am still feeling depressed over his lost of the AI tittle. I will never again wasting my time watching AI. I can not wait to buy everything that he produces. Bless you, Adam. I wish I have a son like him.

  • anna Says:

Iam a 40 plus year old woman and not ashamed to say I am in love and mesmarized by adam.he is talented and has a lot of charmisa that draws you in every performance.the words theatrical are bandied about but that is what embodies a superstar and sells out stadiums, compare micheal jackson, elvis, madonna, cher.adam keep focused on being you as that is what makes you a hot ticket right now.

  • Christine Says:

What a show this season! Right from the start I knew Adam was the most talented. But throughout the show his personality slowly came out. You can tell how humble and just plain nice he is. I never heard him say anything mean about anyone, not even about Simon. I hate that he lost, he was clearly the most talented. But when it comes to it, he will prevail overall. Good luck Adam, you are great! Can’t wait to see what you come up with. I’m a big fan.

  • John Meye Says:

I am a 51 year old, conservative Republican, Christian, farmer from the Northwest. I LOVE Adam Lambert, and think he is a FAN-TAS-TIC human being. I was SOOO impressed with him, and even LOVED his version of “Ring of Fire.” That version was SO perfect because Adam personified, and brought to life, the very human, sexual PASSIONS that we ALL feel….Adam’s ability to FEEL the music is just incredible. I LOVED how humble he comes across, and it feels so genuine. Adam, GREAT GREAT job on Idol, and just stay true to yourself. Don’t let the fame change you because right NOW, you’re such a winner! I’ve seen every American Idol episode, and I have had favorites over the years. Honestly, Adam is my ALL TIME FAVORITE, and I hope that Adam finds this message! JPM

  • Cuban Nerd Says:

I’m a 100% with you. There’s nothing left to say. The moment I hearded his voice, I got Hypnotised. He’s just a great artist and a great person.

  • JOANN Says:

I LOVED READING ALL THESE COMMENTS ABOUT ADAM AND AGREE 100%. I BOUGHT ALL HIS VIDEOS ON I TUNES AND WATCH HIM EVERYDAY AND I STILL CANT UNDERSTAND THE OUTCOME ON IDOL. WHAT A SHAME. BUT IT DOESNT MATTER BECAUSE ADAM IS GOING TO BE A SUPER STAR JUST LIKE ELVIS. WE HAVE WAITED A LONG TIME FOR HIM. I AM A BIG ELVIS FAN AND NOW A ADAM LAMBERT FAN I AM 60 YEARS OLD AND NOT A FAN OF ROCK, BUT I JUST LOVE ADAM HIS VOICE IS A GIFT. I WILL WAIT ON LINE TO SEE HIM. I WILL BUY EVERY CD. I ENJOYED EVERY SONG HE DID ON IDOL. YOU ARE THE BEST NO ONE CAME CLOSE TO YOU. CANT WAIT FOR YOUR CD.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lana Says:

I too am a conservative/republican from Texas. I LOVE Adam Lambert! I do not care about his sexuality or his make up or style. He is a truly gifted person, one that I hope to watch for years and years to come! Best of luck Adam from Texas!

  • Jen Says:

Adam, well, I would be happy to have him as a son, son-in-law, kids’ best friend, babysitter, teacher, whatever. He is awesome and a rare talent. I hate to say it, while Kris is cute and can sing, man, when they sang together…no comparison. Adam is just beyond…maybe that’s why he didn’t win. People just lost their minds. He’s beyond this whole competition. I can’t wait for him to come and tour!!!!

  • Emily Engar Says:

Adam is absolutely the most amazing person I have ever watched. He is a total performer, not just a singer. He has it all together with the vocal range, his outfits, the makeup only made him look better and stand out more, his theatrics added to the show, his different hairdo’s also added. He could totally hold an audience spellbound for a couple of hours. I don’t feel Kris won as I think there was some phone and text manipulation going on. How sad. Adam deserves everything and I will definitely be buying any album he does. I’m 52 yrs old and I love this kid. What talent. And I loved his rendition of “Ring of Fire”. No matter how he changes a song, it sounds fabulous. Who cares if he wears makeup or might be gay? That has nothing to do with his talent and isn’t an issue and I accept everyone. I hear rumors that Christians voted against him because of that and if that is true that is shameful. You can’t help but love this kid. I would be proud to have my kids be friends with him.

  • Eileen Says:

I saw gorgeous Adam again on Larry King Live tonight. Again I was impressed with his poise, maturity, honesty, humility and professionalism. Whether he’s singing or talking, he’s a class act who’s immensely talented and charismatic. He’s truly a role model, not only for children and teenagers, but for his peers and adults. I can’t wait for the AI concert, his first CD and possible appearances with Queen and Kiss. Live long and prosper, Adam Lambert! You are my true Idol! I love you and will support you and your career!

  • CHENAG Says:

I m glad to see that some people share my sentiment. the only reason i watched idol was to see adam perform and if you noticed on every show he was always last or second to last. i think the producers knew most people will loose interest after he sang. i am a black, straight christian woman and my God i ve never heard someone sing like that . even when i didnt like the song l liked it cause he was singing it. it is undeniable that Adam is the most talented singer i have heard since like forever. evlis rocks but i wounldnt even make that comparison because Elvis dosent come near to him vocally. he definetly puts everyone else thats ever been on idol to shame (sorry). chris daughtry used to be my fav till adam came along . i downloaded his performances on itunes and it sounds even better when you listen to it without all the visual distractions. ANYwho adam if you are reading this. LOVE ya. and i cant wait for your album to come out. DONT join any preexisting band. YOU can defintely do your own thing. lastly God gave you an incredible gift. i hope you Acknowledge him

  • CHENAG Says:

ooh and i forgot to say gay , straight , bi. even if he likes animals. i dont give a &$#** and no one else should. i actually like the mystery he is not necesarilly my type but i think he is sexy as hell.

  • Carolina J - San Diego Says:

I am a 50+ women: My oldest the age of Adam, same school same neighborhood. Adam is a Super Star, no question about it. He has an incredible track record as a model student in the arts. I lived in Europe in my teens, and was around when Queen, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, etc caused a uproar with their music and the birth of “British Rock/Invasion”
Yet again in 2009, a new Rock Star is discovered, with talent that supersedes American Idol, the show. The grand finale of the show was fantastic, but just to be so disappointing when Adam did not win, when the whole night was geered toward rock, with queen and Kiss. What a shocker that he did not get the title, it was shockingly disappointing.
This is my last time I am watching this show, everyone knows the voting system failed Adam, and Idol is doing nothing about it.
We can be very thankful to Idol that discovered him and gave him a platform. Week after week I found myself looking forward to Tuesdays so I can see the boy and what his next performance will hold.
I have downloaded all his video clips and studio version of his songs, and is playing in the car and at home. Never before was I so Star struck and in awe of any singer for many years, U2 was the last I could remember.
Here this guy comes on the show, blows everyone out of the water, sings his “face off’ like Randy put’s it, and got the runner up. Adam deserved to be recognized for his God gifted talent and he should share the top spot with Chris, this will be fair and acceptable.
Idol producers are domg nothing about it. We should send them letters, and send Adam fan letters wo he can read it on the road show. Maybe when bags and bags of fan mail arrives at Idol, will they start paying attention to what the people want.

wow… im surprised adam made it to the finals. he should have been out at hollywood week. I dont care that hes gay or dresses like a fool. The fact is he just cant sing… Im a fan of the the style of music he tries to sing, just not a fan of his voice. I tried liking it, but it just didnt compare one second to zepplin or areosmith or gnr. sorry guys…

  • Edie Says:

I was only a ho-hum viewer of AI until I saw Adam perform ROF. But with that performance I realized his incredible vocal range, his creativity, his sexual charisma and I knew he was something special. I can’t deny he surprised me , even after his Boh. Rhap. audition and the other great songs he did. I had casually been following him ever since the audition–but I had no idea that he was capable of all that versatility. I was going to say that’s what I like best, his versatility. But that’s not true. I think Adam’s personality–humbleness, politeness, compassion and empathy–have ‘sealed the deal’ for me.(Randy J.(:?) As so many of you have said, I would be proud to have him for a son. Congrats to his parents!

And, Adam, stay your own person! Fly solo!

  • Karyn Says:

I was around 16 years old when I first got a glimpse of Elvis. He blew my mind because he was so different and I thought he was the handsomest man I’d ever seen or ever would see. And I held that belief up until I saw Adam and heard him sing for the first time. Never, in all those years since my “sighting” of Elvis, did I EVER compare anyone to him. I NEVER said of any performer “He could be the next Elvis” When El first started out, his guitar playing was lacking and I was never in love with his singing voice. It was nice and pleasant, but nothing to write home about. However, he easily made up for those imperfections by being the sexiest man alive.
Now, here’s Adam and I have to eat my words. After nearly 50 years, I actually have to eat my words!!!
    Chomp Chomp Chomp………

  • Lois Wagner Says:

I can’t believe I’m saying this but Adam has me “all shook up”. I’m a 64 yr old very educated woman and I think I’m out of control. I’m glad he didn’t win because of the contract restrictions and control. I want him 2 b free as a bird and create from his inner core. That’s Adam. God Bless u Adam as u embark on this incredible journey. I will b there every step of the way.

  • Star Says:

That’s a great article. Adam IS a great role model and my little Nephew’s LOVE him and I’m SO HAPPY for them to have someone like Adam to look up to…in fact, I think he’s one of THE BEST ROLE MODELS we’ve had in SO many years. Most kids are looking up these people with charmed lives that pretend they’re something really special and if you don’t fit into that mold, you’re picked on. I was watching Oprah about some little kids that killed themselves because of pressure at school and being called homosexuals or being picked on cause they’re different. I love Adam for SO many reasons but when I saw that article about would you want Adam as a role model for you kids…HELL YES! He lets kids know that you can be YOU and be cool, even if you’re not exactly the same as everyone else. He’s made it more than OK, he’s made it COOL to be different and he does teach kids SO MUCH about being a good sport and teaching them to get along and focus on what they have in common rather than persecuting each other. He’s very humble and ENCOURAGING to others, he’s not gloating and picking on anyone just because he’s THE BEST. We could ALL use him as a role model, not just kids. Personally I hope the eyeliner catches on too ;) .

  • len Says:

I am from the Philippines. We love Adam Lambert. My family and friends feel that it is a shame he did not get the title. AI is not a talent contest after all. Why the producers do not do anything to correct the flaw of their system of voting is a big question. Is it more money coming in for AI if they allow one voter to call more than once?

  • Edie Says:

I think allowing as many votes as possible is a ‘public relations’ thing and certainly DOES generate more money. The more viewers you seem to have, the more revenue you’ll get from various circles, such as advertisement, etc.

  • Suzanne Says:

Early in the Idol season, I confessed to my sister that it was Adam I was “in to”. I thought she would have a negative reaction as he was clearly not mainstream. She was about all him too and we laughed and we talk about him like he is a well loved family member. His parents must be busting at their seams for having such an amazing person as their son. I love every note, song, style, smile, swagger and his heart. I love feeling excited and I will buy anything he records and PLEASE let there be videos as he is gorgeous and performs off the charts! I work a lot and I could be doing some needed chores right now but Adam is the talent that I follow… I just can’t help myself. He has “it” for me. I don’t idolize celebrities… until now! Adam, you are my idol.

  • alejandrina Says:

Gay or not… WHO CARES? That is his private life. The truth is , he is a great performer.
what sets him apart is that he is refreshing-not boring-always a surprise. we needed him!!

  • Yvonne Aussie Adam Fan Says:

Adam, I hope you or some one you know gets to read all of these wonderful posts. Your interviews show what a true star you are and have been from the very start. I hope all the people involved in the dialling scam feel ashamed of themselves for cheating such a beautiful person out of a more than deserved title. Can’t wait for your first album!!! Love ya!!!

  • Yvonne Aussie Adam Fan Says:

Oh yes, and have a look at the article on the Adam Lambert twitter page on At & T (huge AI sponsor) involvement by supplying ‘demo’ phones and showing people how to block vote at post final parties. Of course they are going to deny it and AI aren’t going to start any trouble with their biggest sponsor are they???? Puhhllleeeeesssse! And they say they have a monitoring system inplace? That’s a bit of a joke? Anyone involved with AT & T should boycott them (and AI). I would if I could. But I can, not watch AI again. Go Adam. You are a true star. Conspiracy theory? You betcha!!!

  • Tara Rodriguez Says:

OK again its not about who won to me they just being on that show and showing off what they had took a lot of guts and what not. So what if they did not make it to the end we have our faves and why hate on Kris?? It happen he won nothing to do, but say ok now what is Adam up what is he up to next right? Seriously lets forget this stuff and move on we know Adam is a great amazing guy and I’m so curious to see how his future album is going to be and sound. I know this much hes going to be a big star and what he is and who he is has no matter or shape or way. If anyone voted against him for the reason of his sexuality or how he dressed or how different he was then they are wrong in everyway. But if the voted for Kris for the right reasons and not to be against adam then they are awesome. People should not be making fun of any of the idols. Lets not be the next Clay and bash people when we know nothing about them. He’s just sore about his losing idol so long ago and hes just childish in everything he has done with his future. Well again to me stop bashing and lets juts get on and wait to see whats next in store with Adam. Idol is over and this stuff needs to end and we should just sit curious talking about I wonder what his album will sound like I know hes going to throw us some surprises. Tee<3
